Why STEM?
According to the National Science Board’s 2020 report, the global demand for STEM-capable workers continues to rise, fueled by international competition and expanding opportunities. An increasing number of careers now require STEM skills—including many that traditionally did not. This trend is only expected to intensify in the years ahead.
Yet while STEM competencies grow more essential, U.S. K-12 students’ mathematics and science performance remains well below that of many other nations and has largely stagnated.
The real challenge for educators is to move beyond isolated activities and fully integrate meaningful STEM learning into the classroom. True STEM education is far more than building a mousetrap car or a paper bridge. It centers on rich, hands-on experiences that develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep content understanding.
